cycle to work Pledge-share.jpg

To celebrate national Cycle to Work Day on Thursday 3rd September, we are offering organisations/businesses across Southend the chance to run a prize draw for staff to win afternoon tea for two at the Annual Tweed and Vintage Fun Ride.
We’d love it if you could encourage your staff and volunteers to cycle to work on 3rd Sept and promote entry into the prize draw as a reward for those who travel into the office on two wheels. There can be one winner per organisation, and once you’ve done the draw please send the name of the winner to ideasinmotion@southend.gov.uk as soon as possible after Cycle to Work Day.
The Annual Tweed and Vintage Fun Ride takes place on Sunday 20th September. It goes from the Essex Wildlife Trust Woodland Centre in Belfairs Woods at 2pm, and follows the Prittle Brook and seafront cycle routes to Southchurch Park where riders can take tea. Costume is optional, but participants are encouraged to dress in their finest tweed or vintage clothing.
The Tweed ride is free to join and no need to book a place-just turn up and join in the fun! Due to demand if you would like to reserve a cream tea please email us in advance.
If you have any queries or would like to take part in the prize draw, please contact Collette Kemp on 01702 215338 or collettekemp@southend.gov.uk.

Bike riding lets you add a fitness activity into your day even when you think you don't have time for a workout. You get the same cardiovascular benefits from cycling that you get from any other form of aerobic exercise—walking, jogging or dancing. The proportion of overweight and inactive Europeans is constantly rising- by just introducing a moderate level of physical activity such as a twenty minute cycle a day, maybe to work, school or the shops there would be a 12% reduction in heart disease and a fall of 20% in some types of cancer.
