Poppies Wave coming to Southend

12th April – 25th June 2017 Southend-on-Sea Borough Council and 14-18 NOW are pleased to present Poppies: Wave by artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper at Barge Pier, Gunners Park, Shoeburyness, Southend-on-Sea, as part of 14-18 NOW’s UK-wide tour of the iconic poppies. Wave is one of two breath-taking sculptures, initially conceived as the key dramatic sculptural elements in the installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red at the Tower of London during the summer and autumn of 2014. HOW TO GET HERE We would encourage visitors to access the site via public transport where possible please. By Bicycle National Cycling Network Route 16 connects Basildon with Shoeburyness along the Southend seafront off-road cycle route from Chalkwell to Shoeburyness. Temporary cycle parking will be provided close to Barge Pier. A useful travel map can be found at www.ideasinmotionsouthend.co.uk By Train: Two direct train lines operate between London and Southend: the c2c line from Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness Station (this train also stops at Southend Central) and the Greater Anglia line from Liverpool Street to Southend Victoria. On both lines the journey into Southend-on-Sea will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour. The closest train station to Barge Pier is Shoeburyness Train Station via the c2c Fenchurch Street line. Barge Pier is approximately a 20 minute walk away from Shoeburyness Train Station. If you arrive at Southend Victoria, the journey to Barge Pier can then be made via the Number 9 bus from outside the station or by walking to Southend Central Train Station and taking the c2c line directly to Shoeburyness Train Station.
