Bike Club
Bike Club is brand new to Southend and gives you the chance to help shape events and activities on offer to 10-20 year olds.
Bike Club is on the look out for people to help get the ball rolling. If you want to start your own club – or help develop someone else's – they want to hear from you. There team of experts will then work with you to develop events and activities that you want to take part in.
It could be a club, built around a group of you who want to cycle sociably in your own time, for those of you who simply want to learn more about your bikes, riding and improve your skills, or it could be a club where you decided to learn some bike maintenance after school or at the weekend!
Best of all, Bike Club is for everyone – all abilities, all interests.
Whether you want to learn essential bike maintenance basics or you want to hone your skills in the saddle, they will help you realise your ambition, as well as promote your club, in turn encouraging more people to get out there and experience the world on two wheels, as better, more confident riders.
All riding styles are covered and catered for – from mountain biking and BMX to trials and racing. Clubs in other parts of the country have already started loads of exciting projects. They've built tracks for their BMXs, made films about cycling issues and they've even helped special schools to get involved with access-friendly three-wheeled bikes.
How Can I Get Involved?
Any group of young people interested in any part of cycling can start a Bike Club.
Bike Club comes with external funding of up to £2,000 to help with the set up costs as well as providing capital and training. That means you don’t even need a bike before joining a Bike Club. You do not need to wear a helmet and you do not need to look un-cool. The whole point of Bike Club is it is bespoke and tailored to the needs of the young people involved. No Bike Club will ever look or feel the same, each will have its own unique atmosphere!
So, however you want to get involved, Bike Club can help you get more out of your ride... and help more people get on their bike in the future.
