A127 Off-Road Cycle Track
A segregated off-road cycle track currently exists adjacent to the A127 on both sides between the Kent Elms junction and the Southend Borough boundary (and beyond towards Basildon). A number of recent improvements ensure that cyclists (and pedestrians) have a clearer and safer route.
The team have been installing new cycle parking, adding approximately 80 new stands outside shops and amenities. These are either Sheffield stands or street furniture mounted cycle hoops. These new facilities have been located across the town at places you use the most eg post offices, chemists and supermarkets. For a full list of sites please see the link below.
We have also been working with the train stations to provide more secure parking facilities at many of the train stations through the town.
- Southend Victoria station will soon see a brand new secure parking facility for commuters with a key entry system and CCTV coverage.
- Southend East station has a brand new two-tier facility on the Riviera Drive side of the station with an additional 60 spaces being added on the Ambleside Drive side in the New Year.
- Leigh station will also have a brand new two-tier system installed at the drop-off area that will be covered by CCTV.
- Proposals for new parking at Chalkwell and Shoebury stations are currently being worked on.
Please see the Dr Bike Security Tips section of this website for advice on securing your bike, to make it less attractive to thieves and vandals.
