IF YOU WANT TO RIDE YOUR BIKE THEN YOU NEED TO SHOW YOU HAVE BIKEABILITY!
Bikeability are lessons that will help you have even more fun on your bike and teach you important road skills. They're really important and will help you learn all the basics you need to get the most out of your ride. You can then enjoy riding on roads with friends. The three levels of Bikeability will teach you how to stay safe and give you all the skills and confidence you need to get out and about on your bike.
We offer Bikeability training to all students at schools in the Southend Borough. Level 1 is usually offered in year 4, followed up by Level 2 in year 6. Make sure you get your place, check with your school office if you have not received a consent form. In the meantime, practice, practice, practice! All free Bikeability is dependant on DFT funding, but all training is available at cost to all schools.
Bikeability isn't just for kids, we can teach your Mums and Dads too!

Cllr Tony Cox, Executive Councillor for Transport, Waste & Cleansing, comments on the 2016/2016 results:
“At a time of increasing traffic congestion, rising asthma levels and record levels of childhood obesity, the importance of teaching our town’s children how to cycle safely has never been greater.
“I’m delighted that so many young people took up the opportunity to take part in this free training, which equips them with skills to say safe on cycle paths and roads and helps grow a new passion for an activity keeps them fit, healthy and mobile.”
Southends new Bikeability Plus project has proved a hit too, after being part of the pilot schemes, Bikeability plus modules are now being rolled out across the country. Plus will include: Bikeability fix, transition, ride, learn and balance.
Thanks go to those schools who participated in the pilot scheme, below are some of the responses from those participants:

- Bikeability Fix has been fantastic today! The instructors were amazing and put the information over in a way appropriate to the age of the pupils. The children and staff alike were buzzing after the sessions! Lea Carter, Richmond Primary School
